• Lip combo holy grail: I actually don’t want this to sound dramatic, but the Summer Fridays lip stains kind of changed me. I love that they lasts almost all day and all you have to do is apply your gloss on top, especially if you’re on the go. I’ve never felt more put together since I started using! I will usually line my cupid’s bow and center bottom lip with this darker shade, then follow up with a full lip line with Almond (out of stock, but will sound the alarm when it’s back). Still topping lips with Rhode’s minty lip.

• Speaking of good lips— this Westman Atelier balm-stick in Bob and Soda have become my go-to for a quick wash of color without feeling like I am wearing a lot of lipstick. It’s the perfect formula!

  

• I know I’ve talked about this before, but I thought it was time to dive into my favorite skincare brand (that I pretty much exclusively use for my entire routine): isClinical. I had used the moisturizer a few years before I met my skin fairy, Francesca Paige, but when I started prepping for my wedding, we basically swapped out everything I was using for isClinical. It’s expensive, but it works. I’ve never had skin like this in my life— not perfect, but more radiant, hydrated, and glowwwwing. I use this serum and it’s like a drink of water for the skin, followed by my holy grail moisturizer. I’ve recently tried a sample of this new serum/ moisturizer (?) and I am obsessed with whatever it is— instant glow bang for your buck because it also has Vit C included. Saving the best for last, these peel pads (I actually graduated to the more intense extra-strength version that I can’t find online) but these pads are what I attribute most to the glow. Staying really on top of my routine post-wedding has kept everything carrying over into real life nicely, even when I’m not doing as many facials. This is not an ad, but I wish it was!! Manifesting!

• Speaking of skincare, I have been really loving the Sofie Pavitt SPF and using it every day! I am persnickety when it comes to SPF consistency and this one is perfect.

• Getting a blowout is most definitely not overrated and when I feel like a little splurge is necessary, these have been saving me and last almost a full week! Great if you have a lot of places to be in one week. Someone asked how I preserve my blowout and my trick lately has been sleeping with my hair twisted gently on top of my head and loosely secured with a clip.

Hyper-fixations

• Brands I’m lovin:

• Blackberries - is anything prettier? I’ve been cutting them in half and adding to my little yogurt bowl each morning. Upping my fruit intake in general has made my life a little better (and sweeter!)

• Lupine beans!! I get this brand, it’s the perfect daily snack. But just more beans in general honestly— I’m trying to recreate this really good snack we ordered at Bar Besito (for cookbook tour!) with the beans covered in lemon zest.. yum!! CC:

  

• Arnold Palmers— omg. It’s like I just discovered them.

• Also mint in/on everything

• The pancakes and waffles at Max and Helens are absolutely worth it — my tip is going on a weekday if you can!

• Jimmy’s Bolognese— we argue who is the better cook, but I have to say I crave this pasta he makes weekly.

• New Swedish candy shop on Montana is most definitely the danger zone!

• This dessert: popcorn warmed up with dark chocolate, EVOO, and sea salt!

• Loonen water is sweeping everyone’s feed. I love it because it tastes great but I also reallly love the glass bottle design- it’s not too heavy and it fits in a cup holder!

• My sister’s TikTok is amazing and she’s taught me how to cook a lot of the recipes she’s been sharing!!

I obviously didn’t get to everything, but as a refresher, this was my gaps in the closet list from earlier this year. I turned the page and created a new list as were heading into the new season. The last gaps list was very winter-centric and some priorities have shifted!

It was time to take inventory of my closet and really make some decisions on pieces I feel like I’ve put off investing in. You can’t have it all at once and figuring out what takes priority isn’t always obvious. I decided to swap a low heeled boot for a pump because 1) I already have a low heeled boot and it would have been more of a replacement purchase and 2) I don’t wear boots super often in LA. I also combined the category of long winter coat and trench into one, which I’m very excited about, so keep reading!

I have been in need of a sexy, little black heel (LBH) forever and I finally felt called to this gorgeous style from Jude. (also linking them in stock here and here as well). I was torn between the white and the black, but ultimately went with black because it was priority at the moment! I also wanted to try their lower heeled sandal in a gorgeous ivory embossed leather.. and I love them (also in stock here). I should really return one because I don’t need both but I also kind of.. do… help!!

More in the shoe department: I have been needing a good black flat, but really I just wanted some other flat options! You probably remember my impulse Tabis buy, which I’m actually very pleased with months later (still loving them). I also just got these very fun neoprene ballet flats from Gimaguas- perfect for summertime.

I’ve been putting miles on my Khaite sunglasses, and so I thought it would be good to get another fun pair in my rotation. I’ve really enjoyed building a collection over time because they are really so personal! I find it hard to recommend/ take recommendations on sunglasses because you never know how they end up looking on you. I have felt that the Khaite sunnies really do look great on most of my friends that have tried them on, even if they are a little too out there in terms of shape/ bug eye for some. I’ve had these Cookie sunglasses from Phoebe Philo saved and thought I would give them a whirl. They grew on me.. I was a little uncertain when I first unboxed them. I actually appreciate that for the amount of funk, they aren’t too overbearing against my face shape, so they were a keep! I did find a pretty epic vintage pair from Pierre Cardin for half the price at Arcade recently. I love a vintage-inspired new pair, but probably smart to check on Etsy/ vintage shops before ordering next time. Not a regret, but you know I overthink my big purchases to the nth degree. I think I texted my sister 50 times regarding this purchase (sorry, Annabell).

I saw Erin from back in February and she sent me Underwater’s laptop basket which I have been loving for work. As a basket collector, I have been dying to add some of hers to my stash. I recently saw the Crescent style in person and the navy really spoke to me. I love the elongated shape as an every day basket to bring around. Very excited about this for spring and summer!! I’ve never received more compliments on an accessory. `Her baskets would make for the perfect gift, too!

I had no luck online or in person looking for a winter coat. I also wanted to rethink what I was actually looking for. I didn’t necessarily need something that was for freezing temps. I more-so was looking for a gorgeous coat that looked fabulous and kept me warm as a layering piece. The coat is the outfit vibes (sorry, Uncle Chris). I had sort of given up on finding a winter coat at this point, until I woke up to a private sale happening at Nour Hammour and I honestly didn’t know how to act. I started growing my cart on my phone and quickly noticed how fast things were selling out so I pulled out the big guns (my laptop) so I didn’t miss a beat. I was back and forth on so many and then narrowed in on what I actually thought was practical. Things in my cart were selling out by the second. I was stunned at the discounts and I had been looking at Nour Hammour coats in the winter, so it felt like the right time to just go for it. Now I know how you NYC sample sale girls feel.. what a rush. I wish I could link these styles but they were unreleased! I will try to find similar once I get the coat in and try it on. This is the most similar on their website at the moment.

I also like to re-up on new tees every season because I wear them so much. I love this v-neck slouchy tee and this one also looks great and I can’t wait to try it out!

There’s a few more things on my gaps list that I’ve filled via some good-old retail shopping (my favoriteeee way to shop)! I’ve been scoring left and right in the vintage jacket department as well, but I will save all that for some upcoming substacks!

I noticed myself gravitating toward pieces that feel (or are) vintage more than ever. Especially when I think about summer outfits, anything with embroidery, lace and crochet are all I really want to wear. I noticed a trend of vintage pieces I’ve been collecting over the years, and I’ve been on the hunt for new pieces I can share that emulate that one of a kind feel.

Sézane is doing a lovely job of bringing that vintage and heirloom essence into their latest collections for spring and summer. I’ve put together a little edit of my favorites at the moment, and it’s also feeding my obsession with cotton clothing.

I am absolutely obsessed with this skirt that is part of their Sezane x Sea New York collaboration. It truly feels vintage and one of a kind. The embroidery work is so cool and I love the silhouette.

I pay extra attention to the embroidery, lace patterns, and silhouettes that help a newer piece feel closer to vintage. The small details cannot be missed. Like very delicate pleats or mother of pearl buttons. I especially love the ribbon on this blouse, this lace shirt, and another lace shirt with a perfect stand collar detail.

There’s also the ease of the perfect hand-woven Raffia bag to compliment any summer outfit. I love a good basket bag. and I love the detail on this fun bucket style.

I’m working on something fun and fresh, so the inspiration has been flowing.

With the Sephora Sale going on, I thought I’d share a tight edit on some of my favorites I think you should consider trying!

Makeup — I don’t feel human without this bronzer product on, and it’s so easy to use and blend. I also love topping it with this newer, very lovely, powder bronzer (I use Amalfi). This is my everyday lip combo the last few months: this lip tint (Almond), this liner (Twist), and this gloss/plumper. I can’t leave the house without this blush (Tan Line) and this blush (Bespoke). I apply my creme bronzer and blush with this brush. I’ve also been wanting to try this awesome lip product in the shade Bob. I’ve been loving this setting spray!

Hair — I think this is my favorite hair tool ever and it really extends the lifecycle of your blowout.. and obviously my favorite dry shampoo (comes in a travel size now)!

Body — I really need to up my body care routine, as it lacks consistency. But every time I have used the Kate Mcleod Body Stones in my routine, I really see a difference. My skin feels hydrated and smooth. It’s also just a great ritual to have in your wellness and skincare regimen.

Off-work hours, he’s almost always in some version of this: board shorts, a perfectly worn-in tee (a few he’s had since high school that we can’t seem to part ways with), and Rainbow flip-flops that are on their last leg (I bought these while shopping for his birthday gift). He’ll probably shudder when he reads this ode to his style, but he knows it’s true. I never thought I’d pick up key styling principles from him, but I’ve actually embraced a lot via his personal style.

Along the way, I’ve developed my own point of view on beach and resort dressing and I’ve really stuck to some signature formulas. My favorite way to think about an outfit is considering the beach to meal (lunch or dinner) pipeline, and keeping a look balanced for any plans throughout the day or evening.

On repeat

The main thing Jimmy has reinstilled in me is outfit repeating. You don’t need a thousand bikinis and cover-ups. He wears some version of the same thing every time we go to the beach.. and yeah, guys tend to be a little lower-maintenance when it comes to getting dressed (they will never understand what we go through), but I think there’s something to learn there. I’ve found that I’m most confident in a black bathing suit, so that’s usually my base layer.

Button up n down

Perhaps my favorite piece of clothing for the beach: a button down. It has sort of become my hero piece when thinking about beachwear. I love tying them up and around, and finding a new way to style every time they’re worn. There’s so much versatility with a button down for these casual settings, and it allows you to play with styling all day.

The perfect hat

Another repeat piece— a go-to hat. I will promote this hat until the cows come home because it really is packable and its the most fun hat to style. I recently got it in another color and making me choose which is my favorite is like asking someone to pick their favorite kid, so just know I love both equally. I think the brown one might work nicely year round, where the natural raffia is especially lovely in the warmer months and on vacation. You can’t go wrong!

Beach bottoms

Personally, I am not a shorts girl (if you are, don’t let this deter you because I wish I was!), so you won’t ever see me wearing shorts at the beach, but I think sharing this is important because you don’t have to wear things that are often associated with beach/resort attire if they don’t serve your personal taste/ style. Maybe you’re not a pants girl like me, or a sarong girl, or a Pucci bikini girl. The point is whatever girl you are, stay trueee!!

I’ve become really obsessed with a good low slung maxi skirt- it’s the perfect way to dress up a bikini and carry you wherever the day may go.

I am also partial to a perfect cotton pant for the beach. I shared a lot of options in my spring substack!

Beach sweaters

I like to be prepared, so I always bring layers to the beach. We might go out after, even if it’s just a casual lunch or dinner, and I like having options. This usually means a light sweater, tee or crewneck.. and always a pair of vintage Levi’s in case I want to change out of the lighter cotton pants. Cardigans are my favorite underrated beach top, especially on a windy beach day.

The easy dress

A go-to dress to throw on is a must. Old reliable. The first one that comes to mind for me is a linen Paloma Wool dress I got a few years back, and I wish they sold it in multiple colors always because it will forever be one of my favorite beach dresses. Find one you love and never let it go.

I always want to feel most comfortable, so that plays a big role in my beach attire. When it’s really warm out, I don’t want anything clinging on me. That’s why I talk about loving cotton pieces so much.

I think about 12-year-old me.. waiting for the next episode of Laguna Beach to air, shopping at Hollister for layered polos, and watching Surfline on their big screens. She would kind of flip out if you told her she’d be married to a California kid and writing about beach attire.

So here’s a little, or big, shoutout to my husband, the person who inspired this Substack, and the one who will forever be snapping a photo of me at the beach.

On the sporty side of things, I’m really enjoying soft sneakers. What’s a soft sneaker? Examples are below, but really any sneaker that feels like a second skin, almost like a flexible ballet flat. Cotton sweats, zippers and coach’s jackets. I’m awaiting what I think might be the perfect zip-up— such an easy piece to style and layer without feeling too covered up.

Jeans are a constant for me so you will always get denim content every season. It only feels right to include a favorite pair, outside of vintage, and some I’ve been keeping a close eye on to try.

Wearing black is not just for the cold— I actually love wearing all black even more in the spring and summer. I’ve written about it before, and definitely leaning into it more this season.

Since transitioning into spring where I live is more of a mindset, I like to switch up the way I style some staple pieces. Styling your favorite leather jacket with an all white look, raffia sun hats and colored accessories really softens it. Since we’re dipping our toes into warm weather dressing, I'd go for a brown or black raffia hat so it doesn’t feel overly summer. Even the perfect shade of brown leather can do the trick— like this beautiful brown Gucci Giglio bag. I also love it in the smaller size in beige and brown canvas. It reminds me of my very first Gucci bag with the classic GG logo I was obsessed with for obvious reasons.

Another favorite is my idea of a spring suit: a black set complemented by cream accents (a shoe, a crisp shirt). I especially adore when the suit is a skirt or shorts. I’ll follow up on something I’ve acquired recently, but look out for linen, cotton, or silk suits to make your spring suit dreams come true, too! Styling a black suit with a fun flat or sandal pump is my answer for the perfect evening outfit this season.

Accessories are the best way to balance an all black look. A pair of clear frames, a floral heel, a pop of color in a bag or hair clip instantly brings the fresh air.

Some textures I gravitate toward to create a more spring forward look, even in black: taffeta (like these pants), light fabrics (like this Tibi dress), organza (like this Chan Luu paper trench), and cotton evvverything. A lot more coming on my favorite cotton clothes..

Fashion week (and fashion in general) can feel intimidating, at least to me. I hope to demystify it a little and bring you along through a grounded lens. Let’s recap New York Fashion Week!!

First up was TWP, the brand led by Trish Wescoat Pound. Similar to previous seasons, the collection felt like the perfect blend of utilitarian and understated, layered with subtle men’s tailoring. It’s the kind of clothing we all actually want to wear.

As a “warm winter”, according to my color analysis, I especially appreciate the use of charcoal and velvety brown tones over black. I’ve heard those shades are more flattering for those of us in this color season.

But honestly, we have to talk about the beautiful bags… and how they were styled with a second bag layered on top!! As a resident bag lady, I love nothing more than a double-bag moment and TWP bags have been added to my wishlist.

I’ve always wanted to attend an Ulla Johnson show because there’s truly a world that you step into, whether you’re walking into one of her stores or simply slipping on one of her dresses. You can spot an Ulla print from a mile away, and I’ve always admired how recognizable and true the brand remains, collection after collection.

Things I loved about the show: color blocking, statement brooches, sock styling, opera gloves, rich velvets, and of course, the beautiful dresses finished with delicate frills and striking prints, as always.

Editorialist asked me my favorite New York brand, and while there are far too many to name, one I’ve been especially excited to acquire and follow closely is Kallmeyer. I’m just obsessed with every piece. I love the wearability, the materials, and the range. You can find a perfectly cut suit alongside a delicate linen button-up finished with grosgrain detailing. Each piece feels truly special and exceptionally well made.

Their latest Fall 26 collection exceeded what I already know and love about the brand. I was especially drawn to the thoughtful use of tonal sequins, jacquard fabrics that feel like future heirlooms, the pearl detailing in the brooches, and the cream and gold looks that felt almost lightly gilt.

Tory Burch brought thoughtful sweater/shirt layering, perfectly scrunched cuffs, and woven basket bags paired with sharp tailoring (the perfect high-low example). I saved so many pieces for fall from this show!!

Officer’s jackets, the sheer pieces I’m always drawn to, the leatherrrrr, the tailoring. Everything felt quintessentially Khaite, sharp yet softened with touches of femininity. The organza, the lace, the floral embroidered velvet, and the bows!!

Will never not be completely enamored by a Ralph Lauren runway. A herringbone tweed men’s blazer styled over a shimmering gown perfectly encapsulates the collection.

The bags and the reimagined blazers really stood out at Proenza Schouler. I especially loved the color block clutch and the colorful wool suits and dresses. They almost felt like the kind of vintage suits I’d find tucked away in my Yiayia’s closet from the 70s.

I started off my week strong with an evening preview of In House Studio. I was immediately drawn to the line’s real-life versatility. The pieces are made to order using sustainable and regenerative materials. I couldn’t resist trying on some of the beautiful outerwear.

Ossou’s presentation was all in on the styling details. Everything felt incredibly approachable, yet effortlessly elevated. I could have walked out the door in any of the models’ looks and worn them straight through from day to night, which is not always an easy balance to achieve. Looks built with three sweaters or thick tees stacked together, finished with doubled up belts really caught my eye.

6397 was another line I was excited to experience in person. Luxurious tweeds, beautifully textured knits, and silks that reminded me of Dries fabrics.

Grey’s Studio stood out for their attention to detail, especially the very lovely velvet buttons. I loved the matching hats and scarves, so act surprised when they are on my gift guides this year.

I was devastated to miss Chan Luu’s NYFW presentation, but I’ve already saved so many pieces I’m obsessed with. Tessa truly is the queen of meticulous details and perfectly considered flourishes. I can’t wait to try on these pieces!

I attended some pretty fabulous parties, too. After years in marketing, I can’t help but notice and appreciate how brands activate during fashion week. We celebrated Sidia’s new Midas fragrance with Erin Kleinberg and in Brooklyn, ALC brought me to Grand Central for the first time, Madewell x Substack hosted an intimate evening at Gem Home, and Poshmark brought some incredibly well-curated edits to life with an in-person experience featuring some of my favorite tastemakers.

February feels like.. a lady slipper orchid, intentional patterns, fine paper, a white bra, diamonds, decadent treats, soft goods, little luxuries, self-care, lace, and.. pink. As a continuation of my Sunday Inspo series, I want to share some things that have been inspiring me this month.

A beautiful floral arrangement goes a long way. Ever since my wedding, I’ve grown obsessed with learning about different orchids.

As I mentioned, this month is all about the little luxuries: good eye masks, a new pair of luxurious socks and a fresh set of pajamas. Is anything else better? Perhaps something to wrap yourself in while enjoying a fire at home? I don’t think I’ll ever love a blanket more than Barefoot Dreams.

My jewelry wishlist is never ending, but saving exquisite pieces has been more of a regular thing lately.

Being in LA, you don’t get much of the cozy winter weather in February, but my mind is on the dreamy properties where time stops in the snow.

Also starting to save inspo for our Italy trip this summer. It’s always good to look forward to something.

Something about February feels sweeter than any other. I’m obsessed with cinnamon rolls right now.

I’ve been very inspired by framing lately. I knew I wanted to begin framing some wedding things so here are some things I’ve saved when the time comes.

If you read my closet gaps Substack, you know I am in the market for darker denim! The Still Here Life Jeans are the perfect wash and I really like the fit. They feel like Still Here’s version of a 501.

I finally got the Flore Flore Steffie top and my gut reaction is to buy a couple more to always have one available in the rotation! The neckline is so elegant. I did find a couple similar styles at St. George (the Brandy Melville sister store?). If you also wear a short sleeved tee every day, this is the perfect top to style when you want to feel a little more refined, but still casual.

Wanted to remind you the two crewneck sweatshirts I never want to live without: the Jamie Haller Daily sweatshirt and Still Here’s in grey (just restocked). I wore both of these a ton this month.

If you’re looking for a year-round, lightweight, soft, and perfect scarf, you need to add one of the silk-cashmere Chan Luu scarves into your accessory trove. I brought this with me everywhere all month.

I found a great vintage Jil Sander jacket online but I will always reverse image search to see if I can find a better deal. This time, I was lucky and scored this perfect cotton jacket on Depop for a lower price. Love how high the collar is! Some good search terms: stand collar, band jacket, vintage cotton jacket, vintage cotton utility jacket.

I’ve been getting such amazing use out of this beautiful suede jacket from Doen. The fur collar makes it feel perfectly winter, even in LA.

I wore these wool socks a lot with my white flats this month! Comme Si makes the best socks.

I’ve missed my regular facials. Pre-wedding skincare was next level, but now I’m back to real-life maintenance. I got in with my beloved facialist Francesca Paige and she gave me the tune up I was due for. I also restocked on my favorite moisturizer (I think I can confidently say, ever) and peel pads from iS Clinical.

A black flat— I know I need a black pair because I wear my cream Jamie Haller flats almost every day. It would be nice to have something else in the rotation. I ordered the wrong size Chanel flat via TRR over the holidays and haven’t pulled the trigger on another pair since. I am undecided on going the classic route or something more like this pony hair ballet flat from Khaite. I love the Gemma flats from The Row and honestly wish I got the pony hair version when they were still available! Keep you posted on where I land.

A heeled boot— This is actually meant to be a replacement or addition to my Khaite Marfa boots (more sizes here). I love them and have got so much wear of them, but I am in need of something with a tad more height. Some options: Dries wedge boots (on sale) and more sizes here, Khaite Nevada low boots (here in brown second-hand size 6) and could also see myself loving the Mona boot. Staud’s Wally boot or Reformation’s square toe boot are great for this category. I also found this pair and this pair on TRR.

Darker denim— I am constantly looking for a more tailored, darker pair of jeans to dress up. I love my vintage Levi’s more than anything, but there’s a time when something a little more polished might work better. I’m looking into these kick flare ankle jeans from Agolde and my favorite 501 90s in some great darker washes. I just got the new Life Jeans from Still Here (dropping 1/29) in their darkest Indigo Indigo wash and love the fit! They feel like a true boot cut and the wash is exactly what I was looking for. I think they run true to size! Would love any recs you have for a good, dark pair that aren’t too long on a 5’4” lady.

A cropped/fitted leather jacket— My favorite leather jacket in my closet is a brown vintage Celine with 3/4 sleeves I got on Vestiaire a few years back. It works as a top when all buttoned up and it fits like a glove. I am looking for something similar, just black with full length sleeves! I honestly love the look of this one (M) and this vintage Calvin Klein (sold, but good example) and vintage Gucci (IT 38)!

A going out bag— I’d love a go-to evening bag that also works well in day time. I’d bust out this clutch I own during the day, but I think I need an over the shoulder option as well. I love this shape and this would be a similar, less expensive option. Some other considerations on the high-end: This bag feels like a great size for day time, but not too large to bring into the evening. Adore the small Valerie bag from Jacquemus. I’m a fan of the Fendi Peekaboo and Way bags, too!

Also love the color of this bag from St. Agni. I think this satin Hunting Season bag is near perfect.

A Margaux replacement— Make no mistake, I love this bag. I think it’s beautiful and something you’ll look back on as a great investment, especially when you consider the cost per wear. My only frustration is the practicality of the bag for how I’m realistically using it. I own the size 15, and it’s big. It fits almost everything I need it to (but barely fits my 15 inch laptop— sigh). For how much it does fit, it can be hard to maneuver because of the weight on your forearm. I originally felt like the 17 was too big, but I think that shoulder strap would have made sense for how I ended up using the bag. For me, it’s a little large as a forearm bag- I’d opt for the 12 if that’s your intended wear. On that note, I am looking for a replacement. And I think it would be smart if this replacement could work as a shoulder bag, especially for work days/travel. I’d love to try some options on in person soon, so I’ll keep you posted on how that goes! I actually think the Marlo bags are way more practical with their longer strap, so I’ve been considering making the exchange. I have had Metier on my wishlist and they have many styles that would work as a work/travel bag. I also recently recommended the Liè studio Eva bag in brown and in black.

A long trench— I am specific on a trench length. I have yet to find one I love in the perfect shade of beige, or even black, that hits perfectly below the ankle. But- this one from Róhe is close to what I’m envisioning. I actually tried on a vintage navy Burberry trench (this one is similar) recently and really liked the length.

A winter coat suitable for Chicago and New York— I definitely am in need of a coat that is warmer and longer, and I’m hoping to catch something on sale at the end of the season to take care of this. I’m gravitating toward shearling and vintage furs. If there was no budget, it would be this Nour Hammour coat. Also would like to add in a cold-weather boot at some point, but that’s lower on my priority list!

Tops— Who doesn’t need more tops? Not a tee, and not a button down- I’m covered there. Options that feel like more of a statement, but can be styled over and over again in different ways. Here’s some inspiration: maybe more of this, this and this. I also just got this sweet top from Doen and love it.

A slide or mule— I have nothing outside my beloved patinated Birkenstocks, but I am still looking for something a little more polished.

Rain gear— I realized how much I am lacking in this department during the two weeks of LA rain over the holidays. A reliable shoe that works in the rain but isn’t, for lack of a better word, ugly. and Also a hooded jacket or trench would help here. Not much I’ve saved here, but just know I am working on it.

I hope this inspires you to outline some gaps in your own closet and commit to finding the right replacements for the pieces you own but don’t use or love. If you’ve seen any other helpful substacks on closet clean-outs or filling closet gaps, I’d love to read them!

We were looking for a balance of boutique stays, plenty of time to unwind, lots of good food, and a mix of coast and countryside. When we’ve gone to Italy in the past, we usually visit my family in Sicily, so there’s a lot of unchartered territory for both of us. We had the absolute pleasure of working with my friend and travel guru Helen, founder of Preserve Travel and writer of . Her expertise in luxury travel is unmatched, and her taste allows her to curate experiences that feel under-the-radar and truly special. She provided recommendations that felt considered and quietly exceptional, creating a dream itinerary for us! Jimmy took the reins and handled the logistics with Helen, and I just weighed in on the hotels once they narrowed down the final options. I really didn’t want to take on much planning since I was deep in wedding mode. Upon arrival at every destination, there was a note and wedding photo waiting for us- such a sweet personal touch we will never forget. Jimmy kept joking that Helen was in the… word that rhymes with raffia with all the surprises. She coordinated seamless airport arrivals, smooth transfers, and somehow made last-minute magic happen with reservations, room changes, and everything in between.

Casa Privata embodied its name in every way. A private escape that felt incredibly secluded, and magical. The property is very intimate and lush, and the views are incredible. Helen shared with us one disclaimer from the second we considered staying here: the (literal) 1,000 steps it takes to get from the sea to the hotel and from the hotel to the street. She was certainly not lying, but it ended up being a great daily workout for us since our entire time was spent laying and eating.

There are only seven rooms at this property making it extremely quaint- the ultimate retreat. We stayed in the Garden Suite, and it was generously sized with a lot of character. This isn’t a traditional luxury hotel with all the bells and whistles.. the rooms are defined by their charm, which is something to keep in mind. The chef on-site made better pasta than some of the fanciest restaurants in Positano. We had lunch there most days because we couldn’t pass up the ease of staying in such a dreamy place. We ended up booking a water taxi or regular taxi for all the lunch or dinner reservations outside the hotel. The staff was accommodating, friendly and attentive. We truly loved our stay here in every way, and it was the perfect escape to follow the wedding weekend.

Where we ate while on the Amalfi Coast

Trattoria Da Armandino in Praiano — first night, was perfectly casual, local and so delicious.

We absolutely adored our lunch at Da Adolfo. It was definitely in our top 3 pastas of the whole trip. We loved how casual it was, and it reminded me a lot the beach clubs in Sicily that feel more relaxed.

Zass at Il Santo Pietro was really fabulous. Helen was able to get us a very last minute reservation, and we’re so glad we got to go! We also went to La Sponda, and while we loved both, I found myself preferring Zass just a bit more. We went to the bar at Le Sirenuse after dinner and it was the perfect night cap.

We had an awesome boat day and our captain Franco made it such a fun experience. My broken-Italian definitely came in handy during this outing.

Lo Scoglio had the best spaghetti alla Nerano which is a zucchini-basil pasta local to the region (and a personal favorite!).

La Tonnarella closed unexpectedly the night we were supposed to go, so we ended up eating at the hotel, but it came highly recommended. Many also suggested Da Vincenzo and we wish we made a reservation in advance!

Next up was Hotel Il Pellicano. It’s beloved, with impeccable taste, service, and an magnificent location. We enjoyed being able to stay put on property and take in everything it had to offer. The service was a 10/10 and we loved the staff. We ate at both restaurants the whole time- flip flopping between the two for lunch and dinner. The food was excellent and they always had specials or something to switch up the usual pasta pomodoro. The lasagna on Sunday was a standout. Pro-tip from Helen: order the off-menu pizza a day in advance for lunch (it is massive and really good). The spa amenities were simple and fairly understated.

Then we were off to Borgo Santo Pietro, which felt like an actual fairytale and enchanted corner of Tuscany. It rained a lot during our stay, so it was a little difficult to do all the outdoor activities and we didn’t get much pool time. A warning to those planning your European honeymoon in late September or October! On a positive note, the rain days were awfully cozy and we definitely took it as a sign to really relax after the insane year of planning. We got to take advantage of the beautiful spa, which was a sanctuary. Nearly everything on the menu is grown, made, or gathered on the estate’s grounds. The focaccia served at the start of each meal was unforgettable. We loved everything we ate here! The fresh mint tea I had each night by one of the many idyllic fireplaces is something I’ll always treasure.

Looking back, we wish we made more of an effort to drive to Florence, but we ended up doing a day trip to Montepulciano, where Jimmy’s favorite wine can be found. We stumbled on two adorable shops that I’d love to recommend. Legatoria Koinè, a very special store that featured hand made leather bound books. A must-stop for a stationary lover, or gift shopping. The owner was actually making books in the back of the store while we browsed. I loved the linen store named Biagianti and took home a sweet set of napkins/ placemats in the perfect yellow hue.

In Rome, we stayed at Casa Monti and it was exceptional!! Artful and warmly curated, it felt modern yet character-filled in its own unique way. We really liked the location too. It had been years since I last visited Rome, and returning gave me a new appreciation for the city. We really savored our time there. The food was my favorite part and I will dream of each meal for a while. I discovered the most beautiful shop, L’Archivio di Monserrato, filled with one of a kind pieces that are very special. I had the pleasure of spending time with the owner, Soledad, and she was the most elegant woman ever.

Pizzeria la Montecarlo for a pizza snack, one of Jimmy’s favorites of the trip.

da Cesare al Pellegrino for lunch (or dinner) — I said this was one of my favorite meals of the trip. It reminded me how much I truly enjoy a simple tomato pasta and why it’s always my go-to. I found this spot per my friend Michelle’s recommendation (she writes a fabulous Substack, ) and she never misses. They have a few locations!

La Matriciana for dinner — This spot reminded me a lot of Le Petit Lutetia in Paris, but the Roman version. Absolutely loved it!

Antico Forno Roscioli — We loved stopping by Roscioli’s to-go bakery shop for a mid-day snack.

Al Moro — quintessential Rome. Perfect in every way. You obviously need to get the carbonara. You will never forget this place!! Call for a reservation in advance.

While we’re on that subject, these are the best garment bags on Amazon (I’ve tried many). I got a brick— it was time and I pray it helps my phone addiction. My college friend group started a book club and we are all obsessed with the first book we just read, Heart the Lover. Highly recommend! I started the FORM January Jumpstart and the first workout was a perfect challenge to get me back into my wellness routine post-wedding fall-off (FORM code: GABRIG15).

I really want this to be the year of intentional and informed purchases for my closet/life. I’ve been organizing, purging, and being more discerning about pieces I never thought I’d part with. I’m even contemplating my Margaux bag (more on that soon).. If you (I) didn’t wear it last year, you (I) probably won’t wear it this year. If it doesn’t excite me and I wouldn’t wear it now or this week, it’s gotta go. Speaking of, I still have to tackle my denim shelf and I’ve been dreading it. Denim is probably my hardest category to edit- I feel emotionally attached to my jeans. This tee is in my cart and I really need a new pair of dark denim that can be dressed up or down, so wish me luck!

Something that used to bring me so much joy were the little things and moments around my house I could look forward to. A little floral arrangement, a new candle, rearranging a book stack. Really simple things that you wouldn’t imagine could brighten your day or turn it around. In the last year, I shared with those closest to me that I felt like I lost my spark.. My desire to do some of my favorite things sort of vanished.

Good news is I’ve been feeling a lot better! Working from home has made me appreciate the space that we do have and given me some motivation to spruce it up a little for the holidays. The first thing I did was declutter. It felt like an exercise for my brain. I am admittedly not the most tidy, but being home a lot more has given me an urge to declutter to the max. I noticed my mental clarity skyrocket. I removed anything from our shelves, cabinets, and tables that I was not pulled to. I donated some coffee table books and put some decor into storage bins. There’s no reason to have every single thing you own out all the time, and maybe you might feel called to that silly bowl you once loved at another time in your life.

This feels kind of vulnerable to share. It definitely took a while to be on the other side of feeling off, and that journey truly looks different for everyone. I’m no where near 100 percent, but I’m proud of the effort I made. If you have felt similarly, be easy on yourself. Take care of your mental health. Try to do even the smallest thing to bring a little joy to your space as best as you can.

If you’ve been around Gift of Gabs for a while, you know Uncle Chris isn’t new here. And there’s a reason I keep bringing him back. He’s been a constant source of perspective in my life. Someone whose way of seeing the world has shaped how I think, and even shop. He’s thoughtful to his core, endlessly curious, and has a kind of taste that isn’t loud or performative- it just is.

Uncle Chris, while I can’t promise I’ll stop saying vibe or iconic anytime soon, I can promise that reading your words always makes me see things a little differently, which feels especially welcome this time of year.
