I love wearing black in the spring + summer
My favorite black dresses, knits, and swim right now
After a quick spring cleaning session over the weekend, I realized how many spring/summer pieces I own in the color black. My intrigue in wearing black clothes in the warmer months is nothing new, but my collection of warm weather pieces in black has definitely grown in the last few years.
When I think of summer dressing, I love the idea of something that compliments a tan. I’ve most often enjoyed wearing white/ off-white/ light yellow, and even red. But for whatever reason, I’ve been majorly gravitating toward black the last few years. I could blame the surge of brides in my inner circle, which doesn’t give you much room to wear white unless you’re the bride (no shade to them, we’ll all have our moment). But- if I’m investing in a dress, I want to be able to wear it to anything and everything in the summer, including bridal events, so that can sometimes mean: stay away from white. More significantly though, the influence comes from the women in my family. My grandmothers (YiaYia and Nonna), Mom, and aunts favor wearing black all year round. And I get why- it’s timeless.
Spring and summer can be a great time to play with color in your clothing and accessories, but I think wearing black during this time is kind of underrated. Not groundbreaking, but underrated.
I adore a good poplin dress. My recent acquisitions of the perfect black summer dress include this Dôen beauty and this Hill House number.

Another thing about me: I will almost always be wearing a black swim suit. I remember all of the women in my family sporting their black swimwear throughout my childhood and I thought it was so elegant. Don’t get me wrong, I think you should have fun with your swim, example here, but I feel most confident when I’m in a simple, understated black suit.
Some of my favorite black swimsuits: this top and bottom from Monday Swimwear, my favorite, flattering black one piece from Left on Friday. I think those two brands have a great range of bust sizing AND an adjustable back tie (essential). I pretty much always need an adjustable back tie, because I like to tailor it to my waist since I need to size up in the cup. I have my eye on this top from Monday. Brown swimwear is a runner up and this and this were my most worn suits last summer.
My latest sweater hyper-fixations are some of my newly acquired black knits. I have been searching for the perfect cashmere cardigan and finally landed on this one. I sized up two in this, it runs pretty small! This beautiful chunky cotton crewneck is another one I can’t stop wearing. It has an oversized fit so I kept my true size. Expect to see a lot of these in my content this spring. (code: Gabriella15) I also have this cardigan from H&M from years ago, so I can’t link it but here’s a similar one.
Black tanks are also great to easily throw on. I love this one I own from Free People and this one from Re/done looks super cute. I’d pair with my vintage Levi’s and flip flops. Also love this one below from my friend
’s brand Clyque. From my archives last summer:
This might be the title of my memoir. 😆 🖤🖤🖤
Yes I agree! I love black all year round. But in the summer I find it so sexy and chic. I’m on the hunt for a LBD for the summer!
