My favorite things around my home
Oddly specific links, where I've sourced home decor and furniture, plus Sunday inspo
We’ve been at our home for a year now and it has flown right by us. I remember when we moved in and started decorating. I’m more of a take your time decorator, where Jimmy is more of a let’s get everything set up ASAP decorator. I actually appreciate his urgency to get the house decorated, because it pushed me to make quicker decisions than I normally would. However, between all the travel we’ve had and life getting in the way, I feel like I haven’t been able to finish what I started. I really want to focus on getting our bedroom and second bedroom situation perfected in the next few months. I would love to swap out some pieces, add some new lighting fixtures, get a few new rugs, and rearrange a lot. We weren’t sure how long we’d be here in the beginning, so now that I know we have some more time, I’d like to take on some more projects.
Living in our sweet bungalow has been a dream and I’ve found many new favorite objects. This has been a highly requested Substack, so I hope you all enjoy! Nothing makes me happier than when you all message me about a home item you’ve found from my page.
In the Living Room
Our sofa was the first big thing we bought. I knew how much time we’d spend on it and I didn’t mind splurging a little. We had a bit of an odd space to work with and this sofa’s dimensions worked perfectly. I had originally wanted a rust colored sofa, but those are hard to come by unless you go custom. I knew I wanted something other than cream or beige, so when we found our sofa in stock and ready to ship, we made moves. After a year with this big, blue-ish grey couch, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s not too big, and not too small. Super comfortable and easy to maintain (fluffing is easy and not too slouchy). We probably would have gone a tad bigger if we had the space, but this has been perfect for us two to sprawl and have a few friends seated comfortably when we have company.
The famous mirror of course! This has been with me during 3 moves- we love her. I also just picked up this wrought iron standing mirror on FB market, which still needs to find a home.
This blanket from Bien Mal has added the best touch of personality to our sofa. Where I am, there will be a Barefoot Dreams blanket - I admittedly own one too many, but they are by far my most used home item ever.
I always get asked about our front-entry console. I love the mix of metal and glass, so we also have a cabinet I found on FB marketplace on the other side of the room. It is a bit old now, but you can find an updated, similar version here.
Our rug was quite the score on Etsy. The seller had a great collection and is always doing crazy discounts/sales, but they are currently not selling. I found a few other sellers with similar vintage Turkish rugs here, here, and here.
When it came time to choose a plant, I was not the easiest to work with. I didn’t want anything high maintenance, and I didn’t want anything overdone. It was not easy to find something that I hadn’t seen before! There’s only so many houseplants. I ended up hunting down my perfect plant sourced by the Plant Daddies! They have the best stuff, if you’re in LA. It is a Ficus Alii and she is so fun and spunky. It is pretty easy to care for and so fun to look at. I found my pot at Rolling Greens and it was tagged “Loye Round Planter, Marbella Collection Antique Terracotta”.
Our antique, brass firewood holder was exactly what I was looking for in front of our fireplace. Linking similar here from Etsy!
These pillow inserts have been great. I went for pillow covers on Etsy and am very happy with them.
