With hesitation, I give you.. some fall shopping + what I plan on wearing this season. Here is where my head’s at with all the talk of fall happening lately (I’m clearly in denial). While it might not be fall in LA until much later, I’d love you all to relish in your changing leaves, brisk mornings, and hot drinks. The thing I do love about fall dressing is that outfit repeating is at the forefront. Your investment pieces will get worn. You can wear your favorite sweater every day and no one can say anything about it.
It should be no surprise that we shall kick off this fall party with sweaters.
Sweaters lineup -
The short sleeve sweater: this one is the blueprint, but we can go for this one, this one, this one, and this one for the look.
The Red sweater: The statement red from summer is bleeding into fall. I’m sure you’ve all noticed that this is a big thing this AW, and for good reason. So here are some good red crewnecks I love here, here, here, here, and hereee (I really want this one, but it is sold out). Here is one with a little frill. I love this red cardigan and this one, too.
The fitted cardigan: I feel like last year I was all about the massive cardigan, which I still love, but on occasion. This year, I’m craving something more fitted like this one that I own + love (code: Gabriella15), this, this one and this guy.. This one is a classic.
The fitted cashmere crewneck: I love this style because it is exceptional for layering. It also elevates a simple outfit. Definitely my go-to in the fall, especially pair with a tee and jeans. Here’s the one I own and here’s a couple more I like that are similar: this one under $200, and this one.
The oversized cardigan: I’ll be wearing this Goop cardi until further notice.
The boxy crewneck: My favorite child of the entire sweater category is this one that you’ve definitely seen on my Insta already. I also love this mock neck option for it’s interesting neckline, a bit different than the typical thing. I love the H&M price tag on this perfect sweater.
Next up: you guessed it- jeans. In my opinion, all you really need is a great pair (or in my case, pairs) of blue vintage Levi’s. Outside of those, I rely on this off-white, new style from Levi’s (and they’re under $100 bucks) and this black pair (buck mason). Also been loving a dark gray pair for fall, which is nice to have for a night out. Nothing better than these jeans for a fancy denim..the sizing is pretty confusing but I think sizing up 1 or 2 in some of the washes is needed..prepare to hem them if you’re 5’4” and under. I’ve also been wanting to see what this pair is like from Khaite for another fancy option.. (linked here too)
Here is an edit of allll of the jeans I love/own/recommend + or come highly recommended from my own research:
The perfect tee - for layering under sweaters, of course. The art of the tee peeking out perfectly on the collarbone is a masterful one.. My tees of choice are the Michael Stars tees: specifically this one, this one and this one. I also adore this new one from Still Here that they so-perfectly crafted.
Now, we could probably stop here because these are your necessities for early fall, but we’ll keep going with some shoe picks + layering pieces to really complete your look.
Shoes - I am partial to these being the best loafers ever… I have the espresso, but I also want the black. For a more affordable option I’d go for these penny loafers or these penny’s or these (look more like The Row). If you want an unconventional loafer, I fell in love with these in Paris last fall, and the infatuation remains. You guys already know about my love for velvet Mary-Janes, and I’m happy to report I’m craving another pair! I love this green and if you want to match my red, maybe go for this raw-silk version. Last but certainly not least on this front, are these ballet flats I wore all Spring Summer and will continue them into fall.. and they just launched these that are the perfect oxblood shade.
Now for boots! Sadly, my Mango boots from last year are no where to be found on the web, but I have some new boots I’m loving that are taking their place in my lineup. I just got this pair and I love them! Can’t wait to break them out. I felt like I was lacking a black boot with a little-teeny lift- a lift low enough to keep me comfortable but high enough to chic up my jeans+sweater combo. Definitely up there in price, but for how many times I wear my boots- they are worth it to me. If you’re looking for a riding boot, I have these and they remind me of The Row pair (code Gabs15). Now, for more heeled goodness, check out this killer Staud pair (and their mule’d sister shoe and knee high version)
Casual + comfy shoes - You guys already know about my love for velvet Mary-Janes, and I’m happy to report I’m craving another pair! I love this green and if you want to match my red, maybe go for this raw-silk version. I think pairing these with socks will be so cute in the fall. I am obsessed with these from The Row, but I’ll probably hold my horses until I can’t live without them- they feel effortless to me. I mentioned on my stories lately that I’ll always recommend Birkenstocks and Uggs for a fall shoe lineup: don’t fix what isn’t broken. So here’s my ugg of choice, and here’s my birk of choice (oh and this colorway)
Sneakers - a big category. I’m going to be bold and basic and say that all you really need this fall is a black samba. If you want something a little less basic (but on the rise) go Onitsuka Tiger.
I know I said we’re outfit repeating in the fall, of course. But to help with the mundane feeling of wearing your favorite outfit for the zillionth time, I’d try to accessorize with belts + vests + statement earrings. This belt is splurge worthy, but I found some great affordable ones that emulate the same vibe.. here and here. I’m loving this one too. I love the idea of a very simple outfit with statement earrings (I didn’t invent this idea lol) but check out these and these. I have more linked on my fall Substack edit here. I mentioned I’m loving silver/chrome touches in my last substack. This pair of flats are keeping my craving maintained and I found these affordable pairs here and here.
Coats and jackets - I think I might need some more time to mull this one over, but one thing I know for sure is it’s all about floor length, long-tailored-wool blazers, and leather trench coats. I really want a floor length black coat. I recently shared two vintage coats I already have that I think are perfect for this fall and winter. They’re both vintage. I love the leather trench one and I found some great second-hand and vintage options here. Mine looks almost identical to this Lou Lou coat. I’d love to find a very long all suede number but second hand of course to spare the price tag (like this…dream coat enclosed.. beware $).
Comfy wise….the sweats I think I’ll be living in are these vintage-feeling pair. If you want the best deal on sweats that feel like butter, go for these. And vintage crew necks. That you have thrift. I’d recommend a men’s one because they have dropped shoulders that make it look a little more slouchy and effortless.
Bags. Although this is my year-round bag, I especially love it in the fall styled over a big jacket or coat. I also love these totes with the touches of suede and pony hair. I scored this adorable vintage black bag at the Rose Bowl Flea recently, and I found a couple online that have a similar look here and here. A lot of you have been asking, and I think my Dragon Diffusion bag is here to stay, as well! I also just ordered this rather capacious bag (Tiktok girlies know), and I am loving the patent leather look.
I think this is a good starting place to start reeling in your fall shopping. Since it's early in the season, will do a later-into-fall touch base with more finds for FW.. and add in some more layering pieces for when it really starts to get chilly out! Although from what I’ve seen so far, I’m loving this archived 90’s revived puffer vest and this puffer coat to give you a taste of that bundled up dressing. For now, let’s pretend that time is very far away and enjoy the crisp-60 and sunny-fall dressing that is on the horizon (for most parts of the country)..

Thoughts on the silver Onitsuka Tigers?! ✨
Planning for fall fashion is just as fun as wearing it, I am convinced
